The lyric “Just a spoonful of sugar” will be incredibly appropriate when Mary Poppins is featured on the October 14 episode of Cupcake Wars. Contestants on the Food Network's competitive baking show will all have to create confections based on the Disney musical. Madeline Trumble, who plays the magical nanny in the show’s national tour, will be even on hand to judge the sweet treats.
Mary Poppins is the story of the Banks family who needs a new nanny for their children, Jane and Michael. When a mysterious young woman named Mary Poppins appears at their doorstep, the family finds she’s the answer to their problems, but in ways they never imagined. Mary Poppins includes songs from the original 1964 film like “A Spoonful of Sugar,” "Chim Chim Cher-ee” and “Step In Time,” as well as new numbers written specifically for the stage musical.
The show stars Trumble as Mary Poppins, Con O'Shea-Creal as Bert, Michael Dean Morgan as Mr. Banks and Elizabeth Broadhurst as Mrs. Banks.
Now in its seventh season, Cupcake Wars places four of the country’s top cupcake bakers in three elimination challenges until only one decorator remains. The winner takes home $10,000 and the opportunity to showcase his or her cupcakes at the winning gig. Justin Willman hosts while Candace Nelson and Florian Bellanger serve as permanent judges.
