The Phantom Gets a Makeover! ‘Dazzling’ New Phantom of the Opera Tour to Launch in November

Broadway’s favorite masked man is coming to a town near you! A newly reimagined version of The Phantom of the Opera will hit the road, visiting more than 20 cities throughout the next year. Directed by Laurence Connor, the tour will kick off at Rhode Island's Providence Performing Arts Center this November, and will also make stops in Cincinnati, OH and Minneapolis, MN. Additional cities, dates and casting will be announced shortly.

The new production was first unveiled in March 2012 in Plymouth, England, starring John Owen-Jones as the Phantom and Katie Hall as Christine. The new production will be the first mounting of Phantom to tour the U.S. in three years.

“It’s wonderful to have a new production of Phantom touring America in the same year that the show celebrates 25 years on Broadway,” Andrew Lloyd Webber said in a statement. “Director Laurence Connor has done an amazing job and this production has received huge critical acclaim in the U.K.” Producer Cameron Mackintosh added, "I'm delighted to be able to bring this dazzling new production of Phantom—which has been phenomenally well-received by both audiences and critics in the U.K. this past year—to America.

The Phantom of the Opera originally opened in London in 1986 at Her Majesty’s Theatre before transferring to Broadway’s Majestic Theatre in 1988. The production, starring Michael Crawford as the Phantom and Sarah Brightman as Christine, earned seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The Broadway production currently stars Hugh Panaro as the Phantom and Sierra Boggess as Christine.

The touring production will feature a new set design by Paul Brown, Tony-winning costume design by Maria Bjornson, lighting design by Paule Constable, sound design by Mick Potter and musical supervision by John Rigby. Orchestrations are by David Cullen and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
